Awareness project to promote ChildSafe travel - Friends International Encourage people travelling abroad to not give money to children begging, but to encourage them into education. Promote 7 guidelines of Childsafe travelling by carrying your ChildSafe Rotary Passport and encourage your fellow club members, interact, rotaract and international Rotary friends to do the same. I have worked with Friends International, who do phenomenal work on helping children enter education and trainee-ship programmes which will enable them to escape the poverty cycle, to come up with a Rotary tailored Childsafe Rotary Passport size booklet. What are we asking you to do is to help spread the message of keeping children safe at home and also on your travels. First thing is to become familiar with the 7 guidelines regarding Childsafe travel and to carry a Childsafe Rotary Passport, as well as organise information events to encourage others to do the same. The Childsafe Rotary Passport is available through me. Link to Friends International Childsafe: http://www.friends-international.org/projects.html#childsafe The reason why this is an important project for me is because I visited the Friends International Phnohm Phen centre in March 2008 and spent a day travelling around to the various projects. The organisation is making a real difference and whilst there primary focus is getting children into education & apprenticeships and off the street/ out of danger of the sex and drug industry, they also look after families by providing crafts work to family members, which is then sold as finished goods.
