What is District 16 Inner Wheel?
District 16 is made up of 25 Clubs throughout Ireland, from Londonderry in the north to Waterford in the south. The aims of Inner Wheel are to promote true friendship, to encourage the ideal of personal service and to foster international understanding. The District is honoured in 2008-09 to have Londonderry member, Myrtle Buchanan as Association President (Great Britain and Ireland).

District Chairman for 2008-09 is Mary Horan from the Inner Wheel Club of Sligo. What happens during the Inner Wheel year?
Every club meets once a month. Individual programmes are arranged. The District Chairman visits each club at least once during the year.
There are also 4 District Meetings during the year, including the District Assembly attended by Club and District office bearers and the AGM in June. The Annual Conference takes place in April, and in 2008-09 will be held at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast. The International Convention occurs every 3 years and in 2009 will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The Association President visits the annual Rally. This is also a time for Inner Wheel members to party and celebrate.
Who can join?
As well as wives and partners of Rotarians, Inner Wheel welcomes any female relative of Rotary or Inner Wheel, over the age of 18. Each club may invite up to 4 persons not related to Rotary/Inner Wheel to join as honorary members. Inner Wheel is one of the largest female organisations in the world.
What is the District Chairman's Charity?
The main charities supported by District Chairman Mary Horan for 2008-09 are the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association and the Irish Heart Foundation. Inner Wheel supports a wide range of charities at local, national and international levels. The Alzheimers Society is the Association Charity (GB&I) for this year while at International level 'Global Education for Girls' is being supported through UNICEF.
